Make Your Own Pocky for a Saturday Snack

POSTED  27 Dec 2008  |   COMMENTS {} VOTES

I don't really get it, but my kids both love the Japanese snack Pocky. There is a grocery/dry goods store in Toronto that sells only Japanese stuff. A giant Hello, Kitty is painted on the outside brick wall. When you go into the store you behold a truly astonishing array of flavours of Pocky.

Skip the Processed Sweeteners, Stick to Honey

POSTED  5 Jan 2009  |   COMMENTS

Raw honey and other unprocessed sweeteners like agave nector, raw sugar, and brown rice syrup can replace processed sugars. That's a good thing considering that refined sugar has an extremely high glycemic food index and can have a severe impact on your blood sugar, insulin levels, digestive enzyme... + READ MORE

How to Dispose of Old Hearing Aids

POSTED  4 Jan 2009  |   COMMENTS

It is usually the aged who need hearing aids. Although quite a few younger people will surely lose their hearing from blasting Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch all day on their iPods, it is the elderly who most often suffer from the affliction. What can you do with hearing aids that you don't need? It... + READ MORE

Green Glossary: Tempeh

POSTED  4 Jan 2009  |   COMMENTS

With hungry greenies recognizing that the meat-based is not only cruel to animals and unhealthy for humans, but also a primary cause of climate change, the search for meat substitutes is on. Skip the 100 Calorie Diet Trap

POSTED  3 Jan 2009  |   COMMENTS

Those dreaded 100 calorie mini packs became all the rage a few years ago and unfortunately it's a trend that even in this age of eco-awareness, has not yet disappeared. Individual food packaging adds so much extra waste to the planet. Seriously, for every handful of Oreos you eat, you're gonna throw... + READ MORE

Eat Pistachios All the Time

POSTED  2 Jan 2009  |   COMMENTS

Pistachios were not something that we normally stocked growing up. They were a special event sent every year as a gift from my Aunt Jane. I loved them. The thrill of breaking threw the salty armor of those delectable treats only to find the tiny green nut inside. + READ MORE

Use Grapes to Prevent Cancer

POSTED  2 Jan 2009  |   COMMENTS

Grapes are awesome. You can use them to make wine. You can eat them in bunches or wait for them to shrivel and eat them as raisins. You can pinch them with your eye muscles and shout, "Hey! I'm Grape-Eyes!" You probably wouldn't do that, but you could and we'd all still think the world of you. And... + READ MORE

Grow Your Own Organic Wheatgrass

POSTED  2 Jan 2009  |   COMMENTS

One of my favorite things is a good shot of wheatgrass, especially if I've had too many cocktails the night before. I'm not really sure if it works, or if I just feel guilty enough for overindulging that drinking grass makes me feel better. Whatever the case, wheatgrass is credited with a host of... + READ MORE
